Vision Statement: All students are inspired to achieve personal and academic success.

The San Mateo Elementary School community of parents, students, teachers and staff is an amazing group of dedicated individuals who work together to create a positive environment for all to learn and grow. We are committed to creating a school that provides a rigorous, enriching academic program for all students in a safe and nurturing learning environment.

The teachers at San Mateo are continually involved in staff development to improve their knowledge and skills as educators. The staff implements strategies learned through the District's Literacy Initiative to promote critical thinking, develop academic language and increase comprehension in all areas of the curriculum. When you walk into our classrooms you will find a learning environment that supports academic growth and fosters a love of learning. The print-rich environment with meaningful co-created charts, cooperative seating arrangements, organized classroom libraries, and meeting areas designed for large group, small group and individualized instruction help to create the most effective learning environment for our students.

We are a Kindergarten through 5th grade school that focuses on the whole child while helping them to reach their highest potential. We have many programs that support the academic, social and emotional development of all students. We provide intensive support to our students that need extra assistance in language arts and math through our Response to Intervention and iReady programs. Additional opportunities to provide students with enrichment and additional academic support are plentiful at San Mateo.

SME is proud to recognize accomplishments. To encourage outstanding behavior and the development of positive role models on our campus we acknowledge our students monthly. Student of the Month awards highlight classroom role models who are presented with certificates, a special SOM poster keepsake as well as campus-wide recognition on our Student of the Month bulletin board. In addition, we celebrate being “Bucket Fillers” with Positive Referrals to the Principal. After three referrals, students earn Lunch with the Principal. Awards assemblies are also held at the end of each quarter to recognize our students for academic achievement and outstanding citizenship. Parents and family members are invited to our awards assemblies to help us celebrate student success.

We offer many opportunities to include all stakeholders to inspire our students including Dudes Do Read, Ladies Love Literacy, Math & Science Night, Reading Kick-Off Week, author visits, Career Day, Multicultural Day and participation in districtwide Science Fair.

At San Mateo, we have art, music, media and physical education resource classes. We offer several extra-curricular clubs for students including Tots, Safety Patrols, National Elementary Honor Society and Student Council.

At SME we strive to provide our students with a challenging and engaging educational program. We are proud of our accomplishments and are looking forward to another successful school year.
