• SUPERINTENDENT’S 25 BOOK CHALLENGE

    Student Participation Guidelines 


    1. Read books outside of school-time.
    2. Complete a reader’s response using the appropriate book log or technology site (i.e., free site-bookadventure.com, BiblioNasium.com). Teachers may chose different types of response logs but all logs will include title, author, pages, and parent signature. 
    3. Submit completed response logs to your teacher to document completion.
    4. Teachers will monitor progress and celebrate successes within the classroom and school wide. 


    Student Participation Incentives 

    1. Special lunch with the Superintendent during the end of year Literacy Extravaganza. 
    2. Elementary students become a member of D.J.'s Book Club
    3. Avid Reader Award for each grade level (per region) 
    4. Recognition on district’s website 
    5. Superintendent’s Surprise Awards Announced Quarterly  
    6. At Lone Star, each grade level will announce the top reader at the end of each month and those students will join Dr. Lingren for a special lunch.


    Annual Reading Expectation by Grade Level:


    • Kindergarteners will read 75 picture books with an adult or independently
    • First graders will read 75 picture books or 25 chapter books with an adult or 
    independently
    • Second graders will read 150 picture books or 50 chapter books independently
    • Third graders will read 200 picture books or 30 chapter books (large type of 100
    pages or more) independently 
    • Fourth graders will read 30 chapter books (large type of 125 pages or more)
    independently
    • Fifth graders will read 25 chapter books (large type of 150 pages or more)
    independently

    *Selected books may not be a part of the school’s curriculum. Students at all grade levels may use audio books, “Learning Ally” application or equivalent support
