Visual and Performing Arts

  • Students at Martin Luther King receive regular instruction in art, music, physical education, and media.  On Magnet days, students in grades K-2 experience a variety of additional arts area opportunities including visual art, movement, instrumental music, and theater.  In grades 3-5 students specialize in a specific arts area to begin training and preparation for matriculation to one of the middle schools of the arts (LaVilla and Fort Caroline).  Students may focus on musical performance (vocal or instrumental), theater, visual art, dance.

Every other Friday, students participate in Arts in Action where they are assigned to a group based on their interests.  Arts in Action groups include painting, theater, Spanish, ballet, gardening, cooking, yearbook, Anime, science, fitness, step, baton twirling and soccer.

Students enrolled in the Boys and Girls club may participate in drumline, step, cheerleading, baton twirling, basketball, and flag football.
