New Boundaries Approved for Chaffee Trail Middle

Following the conclusion of the community engagement process, the Duval County School Board approved new boundaries for the new Chaffee Trail Middle School, Baldwin Middle-High School (for middle school students only), and Westside Middle school for the 2024-25 school year. The change did not impact Westview K-8.

The boundary change was necessary to accommodate the opening of the new school.

The district is now working to re-program all systems so that families can see which school they are zoned for based on their address. That information is expected to be available soon.

Do I need to Apply or Enroll?
If you are currently enrolled in a Duval County Public School and will be zoned for any of these schools next year, you do not need to do anything. Students who are not enrolled in a choice option are automatically enrolled in their zoned school for the next grade in the next year.

What about choice?
If you prefer to attend a different school than the one you are zoned for, now is the time to submit a school choice application. As an example, many current Baldwin students have been reassigned to the new school. Families that would prefer to stay at Baldwin would need to complete the school choice process. Choice assignments are made through a lottery process, and there is no guarantee you will be able to attend a school other than your zoned school.

I live close to the line and can’t tell which zone my house is in. What do I do?
We understand the map below isn’t a perfect answer for your school zone questions, especially if you can’t tell which side of the line your house is on. If this is your situation, you have two options at this stage. First, you can wait just a little longer until we have these new boundaries and each address programmed into our systems. Then you can decide to stay in your zoned school or fill out a choice application before the Feb. 29 deadline. If you don’t want to wait, you can fill out a choice application now for the school you prefer. If that turns out to be your boundary zone school, you’ll be automatically in that school. If it turns out that you are not in that zone, you’ll already be in the lottery process to possibly attend that school.

When will I know for sure?
Once all the address data is correctly loaded into our systems, we will send an email to your linked parent account email address. We expect to send that information later this month. We will also post general information here, so that you can check for yourself in FOCUS once the information is available.

Who do I call if I have questions?
The best group to address school assignment questions is our School Choice team. They will not be able to answer specific zoning questions, yet, but they may help you better understand the process if you have questions at this time. Call School Choice at (904) 390-2999.
