    Welcome

Mount Herman Exceptional Student Center is a Duval County Public School, and one of three center schools in Jacksonville, Florida.  It is located in a culturally rich and diverse urban neighborhood on the North side of Jacksonville.

For over 30 years, Mt. Herman ESC has served individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (InD) and physical disabilities from prekindergarten through grade 12+ functioning at various levels within the Participatory Level for Academics (PLA).  The ages range from age 3 to 21 on the first day of school.  In a warm, supportive and caring environment, our school offers highly specialized programs to meet the individual needs of each student.

Although significant cognitive and behavioral disabilities are present, we continue to maintain our focus on each student’s ability, not disability.  We firmly believe that each and every student can learn and will learn, given an environment that fosters student growth and achievement.

Our purpose is to provide meaningful instruction and enriching learning experiences which develop interpersonal and educational skills.  Our students are given the opportunity to learn to live life and to live it abundantly, thus becoming more productive members of school, family and community.
