    Commitment

Duval County Public Schools is committed to providing a safe environment for all its employees and students, free from discrimination on any basis and from harassment at work and school.  All persons should expect to be treated with respect and to have their rights under the law protected.  Inequitable treatment limits future success and prevents individuals from making a full contribution to society.

Alignment – 小丑撸 and the Community

The Duval County School Board values the contributions made by all members of our diverse community of students, staff, parents, community groups, and this helps employees align their actions with the district’s mission and to its goals.   A lack of respect for the differences of others, regardless of the type of difference, hinders this process, hurts professional relationships, and can create a hostile working environment for all parties involved.

    Fair Treatment for All

小丑撸 Board Policy 10.10 Prohibiting Discrimination and Harassment states, in part, that “No person shall, on the basis of a person’s actual or perceived identity with regard to race, color, religion, gender or gender identity/expression, age, marital status, disability, sexual orientation, political or religious beliefs, national or ethnic origin, pregnancy, veteran status, or any other distinguishing physical or personality characteristics, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity or in any employment conditions or practices conducted by this School District, except as provided by law.”

The Office of Equity and Inclusion/ Professional Standards aims to support this policy by helping to eliminate the opportunity gap by fostering respect for and celebration of our diversity, promote cultural unity, individual growth, and classroom and workplace harmony.

Applying Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Daily Life

Understanding how to apply diversity, equity, and inclusion into daily practices at work can be very beneficial.  Daily practices can include the following:

    1. Remembering that all persons that you meet come with different perspectives and practices based on their own cultural backgrounds.   Understanding this can pave the way towards building more effective relationships with our students, parents, staff, and other stakeholders.  This is especially true when it comes to communication.
    2. When it comes to working groups in the classroom and in the workplace, ensure groups are diverse and that there is equitable treatment of all persons involved.  This will encourage inclusion for all.   Diverse groups are more than likely to reach their goals.
    3. A key component to the 小丑撸 Strategic Plan is the inclusion of four characteristics of its culture - Responsibility, Knowledge, Trust and Compassion.  Remembering these characteristics in our daily interactions with students, parents, staff, and other stakeholders will assist in maintaining a diverse school / workplace.
    4. Managing personal biases and avoiding behaviors that promote the use of stereotypes may take effort, but the results are well worth it.  In addition, allowing such behaviors to persist in the school and workplace is a barrier to change and will hinder the progression of a diverse and inclusive culture.
    5. Getting to know a person of a culture or background that is different from yours.  Experiencing another culture is a great way to expand your own knowledge and gain an appreciation and respect for that culture.
