Field Trips

Effective 8/1/23: Field trips are paid $27.78/hour in 15-minute increments after the first hour, 14 hours/day max.

Field trips are subject to a 1-hour minimum on school days and a 3-hour minimum on non-school days (including weekends, holidays and summer).

One-way trips should be paid for round trip time and miles.  A minimum of at least 1 or 3 hours for each.

Mileage is paid round trip at the rate of $0.70/mile.

As a general rule, field trips are scheduled between 9:30 AM and 1:30 PM on regular school days.  Please try and avoid scheduling trips on early release days. 

Note: Groups must leave the destination site in enough time to have the bus back to the school at the confirmed return time.  Buses that return late after 1:30 p.m. from a field trip impact the timeliness of the afternoon Home-to-School Services.

Note: To ensure transportation services for senior events, graduation and end of year dismissals, Elementary and Middle school field trips will end on May 17, 2024. No Exceptions.

**Athletic games, play-offs and tournaments are not considered "field trips" and may be scheduled** 

Field Trip Coordinators of both STA and Durham have been made aware of the above deadline date and will decline field trip requests during this time frame designated for senior events and graduation support.  

This does not apply to the use of Common Carriers and does not display with the Common Carrier information.  If an elementary or middle school plans a field trip after May 17, 2024, they will need to use a Common Carrier, which are listed on the current Common Carrier approved list above.
