      In the State of Florida, Police Records are generally considered to be Public Record. There are a few exemptions, however, which were designed to prevent interference with active investigations and to protect Florida's children.

      The Florida law on "Public Records" may be found in its entirety in  of the Florida Statutes. 

       

      When you request a police report, every effort will be made to get you the information you are entitled as quickly as possible. Because most of our incidents involve juveniles, and almost all juvenile information is confidential per various Florida State Statutes, a review of the case that you are requesting is necessary prior to its release. This review is done to ensure that all statutory requirements are met.

       

      It is important to note that all requesters may remain anonymous when asking for public records and they do not have to put their request in writing or state why they want the record. To ensure that records are provided in the most efficient manner possible, requests will be fulfilled through the methods outlined below.  

       Note: There is an average wait time of up to 10 business days before you will receive a report containing juvenile information. Please provide a valid telephone number or email address where you may be contacted when your report is available for release.

      Media Requests:

      Requests from members of the media can be facilitated by the Duval County School Board Communications Office, or the requester can follow the same process as the general public. To contact the Communications Office please call (904) 390-2126.
