    The Professional Oversight section is responsible for ensuring that all agency training, practices, and processes are in accordance with the highest professional standards.

    The Commanding Officer of the Professional Oversight Section is a police Lieutenant and works directly with the Police Chief. They conduct DCSP Internal Affairs Investigations and maintains the confidentiality of all investigations. They facilitate, mentor, coach, and train individuals in the use of various problem-solving, leadership, process evaluation, and process improvement tools and techniques. They provide secondary reviews of all Professional Oversight Section administrative cases (RTR, vehicle crash [VC], and vehicle incident [VI]), respond to and investigates all unintentional discharge incidents outside of approved training. They identifies agency-wide trends, training problems, and areas of policy that require further review of police vehicle crashes, and response to resistance reports as well as facilitates reviews of critical incidents to ensure DCSP is following best practices and national standards in its operations. The Professional Oversight Section presents, trains, and educates DCSP groups regarding agency policy and a variety of public safety-related topics and coaches and mentors employees. The Lieutenant of the Professional Oversight Section shall ensure new members receive a training orientation upon reporting to the DCSP.  The Professional Oversight Lieutenant is required to review and update police operation procedures that will provide members with detailed information on policy, procedures, and member responsibilities and Identifies and reports to the Police Chief agency-wide trends, training issues, and/or areas of policy concern that require further review related to incidents.
