  •  General Student Placement Guidelines

    • Program enrollment is open to all students regardless of literacy level, ESOL or ESE status.
    • Students who are absent and are withdrawn by the school will lose their seat in the program, unless otherwise stated by the principal.
    • Parents should be made aware that the program is challenging and students will be learning a second, or maybe even third, language.
    • Parent must complete registration documents, Dual Language Application, and sign the Dual Language commitment letter.
    • Students are enrolled in the program automatically from school year to school year (except for years when transferring from Elementary to Middle School or Middle to High School).
    • Students must re-apply for continuation from the Elementary to the Middle School program and from the Middle School to the High School program.
    • If no space is available and students meet entry requirements, students may be placed on a wait list.
    • When filling a vacant seat, students will be admitted in the order they were placed on the wait list.

    Spanish Language Requirement

    Application Process

    Application for the DL Program is open to all students regardless of literacy level, ESOL or ESE status.

    Parent must contact the school to find out if space is available in the student’s entering grade.

    Step 1:

    If space is available at the school, complete Dual Language Program application. School will determine if student meets Spanish language requirement or if testing is needed. *

    *May consult with Dual Language Specialist to determine eligibility.

    Step 2:

    *Meets Spanish language requirement.

    (All Kinder and First Grade students, Continuing С³óߣ DL students, ELLs less than 2 years country from a Spanish Speaking Country, and students transferring from another DL program.)

    Step 3:

    School will submit the DL application to the School Choice office.

     

    All students should be identified as Magnet/ Special Transfer to be eligible for program continuity.

    a.        Magnet Schools (San Jose ES & West Riverside ES)

    b.       Special Transfer Schools (Beauclerc ES, DuPont MS, & Englewood HS)

     

    Admission is determined by a lottery system which is based on the number of applications versus available openings.

     

    Step 4:

    Once admitted, parents sign the Commitment Letter.

     

    Note: Schools are responsible for keeping a waiting list and contacting parents when space is available.

    **Needs to be tested with LAS Links Español Form A

    A testing appointment will be scheduled with District Testers.

    Does not meet Spanish language requirement, discontinue application process. 

     

     

  • Kindergarten - 1st Grade:

    • Parent must complete Kindergarten registration documents, DL Application, and sign the DL Commitment letter, which states a commitment of 5-6 years in the program.
    • No Spanish Language requirement needed to be admitted.

    2nd Grade - 5th Grade:

    • Parents must complete the DL Application and the DL Committment Letter. 
    • Vacant seats filled from the wait list during the school year.
    • Students must meet the Spanish language requirement before being placed in the program (unless transferring from a similar DL program). They are tested with LAS Links Espanol Form A and need to achieve an Early Intermediate Spanish language Proficiency or above to qualify.

    Parents do NOT have to re-apply to remain in the K-5 DL Program.  

  • 6th - 8th Grade:

    • All Elementary DL students must re-apply to continue in the Middle School program.
    • Must complete and submit the DL Application and wait for an acceptance notification.
    • Vacant seats are filled from the wait list during the school year.
    • Students must meet the Spanish language requirement before being placed in the Dual Language Program. Students are tested with LAS Links Espanol Form A in all domains. 
    • Due to the immersion nature of the Spanish language instruction in the Dual Language Program, only students with Intermediate Spanish language proficiency are admitted.
  • 9th - 12th Grade:

    • All Middle School DL students must re-apply to continue in the High School DL program.
    • Must complete and submit the DL Application and wait for an acceptance notification. 
    • Vacant seats are filled from the wait list during the school year.
    • Students must meet the Spanish language requirement before being placed in the Dual Language Program. Students are assesed with LAS Links Espanol Form A in all domains.
    • Due to the immersion nature of the Spanish language instruction in the Dual Language Program, only students with a Proficient level in Spanish are admitted in 9th-12th grade.
    • It is not recommended to place new students in the program after 10th grade.
