As the state of Florida has now approved legislation to create the Florida Seal of Fine Arts, this will be the final year of the Сߣ Seal of Fine Arts. Initiated in 2022, the goals of the Duval County Public Schools Seal of Fine Arts are to:
- celebrate students who demonstrate high levels of commitment and proficiency in the fine arts (as defined in Florida Statute 1003.4995 including visual arts, music, dance, and theatre) through personal expression and creative experiences in fine arts education programs
- explore innovative pathways in the fine arts that cultivate skills for 21st-century success
- prepare students for college and career readiness through active participation in artistic endeavors
- promote increased access to well-rounded, high-quality fine arts education across the district
The Сߣ Seal of Fine Arts designates graduating seniors who have dedicated a significant portion of their high school journey to the study and pursuit of excellence in their fine arts field.

The application window for the Seal of Fine Arts ended on April 17, 2024 and award notification emails were sent to students and educators on April 29th.
The following information is here for your reference.
Student Requirements to Qualify for the Сߣ Seal of Fine Arts: 23-24 School Year
To qualify for the 2023-2024 Seal of Fine Arts, a student will complete:
- A final GPA of 3.5 in each qualifying fine arts course and an overall GPA of 2.5
- A minimum of 4 credits in fine arts discipline(s) as defined in Florida Statute 1003.4995 (dance, music, theatre, or visual art) *Qualifying courses listed below
- Letter of Recommendation from a Fine Arts Educator who works with the applicant
- Artist Statement submitted by the applicant (200-500 words) addressing how the arts have impacted their life/what the arts mean to them/where they see themselves using the arts in their life beyond the classroom
- At least one of the following:
- Two years of participation in a district, regional, state, or national fine arts event(s) including, but not limited to:
- Honor Music Ensembles
- District Music Performance Assessments (MPAs)
- Thespians
- Award recipient through the Сߣ High School Art Exhibition
- Award recipient through regional or national Scholastic Art & Writing Awards
- Submission of a Fine Arts Portfolio (Visual Art Portfolio or a Performance Portfolio) **See below
- Two years of participation in a district, regional, state, or national fine arts event(s) including, but not limited to:

Visual Art or Performance Portfolio Submission
Visual Art or Performance Portfolio
A portfolio encompasses a project-based learning opportunity for a student to showcase the culmination of their knowledge and communicate with an intended audience through their medium while fostering real-world skills and experience. The portfolio process should encourage learners to apply their knowledge and mastery of their fine arts area in a way that interests them and furthers their individual goals. Through the Visual Art or Performance Portfolio, students should demonstrate their artistic literacy through their ability to Create, Perform/Present/Produce, Connect, and Respond to their world as an artist.
Project Requirements
We require all submissions to have an observable outcome which must include one of the following: a collection of 4 original artworks, a recorded performance, an original script or design as specified within the arts areas below, or a project of student design.
Works submitted for consideration should be created during the student’s tenure as a high school student.
Visual Arts
- Submit a collection of 4 works of original artworks with some sort of unifying theme or media use (submit works digitally via images with spreadsheet [linked at the end of this document] including work title, media, dimensions, year of work creation).
Music
- Writing or composing an original song (submit sheet music)
- Performing an original song (submit sheet music & video)
- Creating an original underscore for a film or performance inspired by themes of the work
Theatre
- Writing and performing an original one-act (submit script & video)
- Designing costumes, lighting, or set for a school or community production (submit design)
- Devising an original show with an ensemble (submit script and recording of performance)
Dance
- Choreographing a number for a musical or stage production (submit recording of performance)
- Creating a methodology for annotating movement
- Creating an original dance film (submit recording of film)
