    Who We Are:

    Training offered by the Office of Equity and Inclusion/Professional Standards (OEI/OPS) includes:  developing cultural responsiveness within our district through self-awareness, discussion, and increased knowledge and skill-building related to our rights and responsibilities under state and federal civil rights laws, and building awareness regarding district expectations that all employees conduct themselves in an ethical and professional manner in accordance with district policies and the Principles of Professional Conduct of the Education Profession in Florida. 

    Whom we serve:

    Our ultimate responsibility is to our students, their health, safety, and well-being. With this commitment in mind, we support and train all employees who have contact with students in Duval County public schools. 

    Duval County Public Schools’ Strategic Plan specifically outlines the core values and goals that address the needs of all students. Strategies include encouraging positive behavior and respect towards others, equitable access to programs and distribution of resources, and creating a welcoming, respectful, and responsive environment for all stakeholders. 

    The Principles of Professional Conduct state:

    •       The educator values the worth and dignity of every person, the pursuit of truth, devotion to excellence, acquisition of knowledge, and the nurture of democratic citizenship. Essential to the achievement of these standards is the freedom to learn and to teach and the guarantee of equal opportunity for all.

    *Child Abuse Reporting Requirements:

    Public and Private school employees are mandatory reporters and have a legal obligation to report known or suspected child abuse or neglect to the Department of Children and Families.

    Florida statutes require all teachers to participate in continuing education on identifying and reporting child abuse and neglect. The required web-based course is approximately one hour in length and can be accessed by visiting: www.myflfamilies.com. Click on “Services and Programs” at the top. Click on “Abuse Hotline” from the drop-down menu. Scroll to “Web-based Training”. First-time users must register. After completing the training, print your certificate of completion and turn it into your principal. Principals are to send in the certificates to the Office of Equity and Inclusion/Professional Standards via school mail or fax (390-2468). This office tracks the training of all personnel.
