Teenage Parent Program (TAP)

The Teenage Parent Program (TAP) (6A-6.0525) is a voluntary program provided by the Duval County Public School District. The program is designed to meet the needs of pregnant and parenting students.  The TAP program works to facilitate the well-being and self-sufficiency of teen parents by providing and coordinating ancillary services to ensure that teen parents remain in school, earn a high school diploma and become productive citizens and caregivers for their children. These services support a healthy pregnancy, healthy children, and the well-being of the whole family. This holistic approach is predicated on the belief that when teen parents are healthy and feel well, and have quality childcare, they perform better academically.  TAP students are eligible to receive ancillary services based on their particular needs.  These services include health services, social services, transportation, and childcare services.

There are two program options:

Program Option 1 – Student may attend the teenage parent program site 

Students who are pregnant and/or parenting may enroll in the teenage parenting program site offered by the District.  The TAP program site is located on the campus of A. Pilip Randolph Career Academies (APR).  APR offers students over 12 academic programs to choose from in addition to the TAP program, Possibilities and Success Academy (PAS) for teenage parents.  APR offers academy options such as the culinary arts, health science and welding.  The TAP program is available to both female and male students.

Students will continue their academic studies while their child attends childcare onsite at Possibilities and Success Childcare Center (PASCC).  PASCC is licensed by the Department of Children and Families (DCF) and currently holds a 4 out of 5-star rating with the Early Learning Coalition of Duval (ELC).  The center has certificated teachers and dedicated support staff to promote and sustain early childhood learning, helping to increase school readiness.

Students will receive case management and coordination of ancillary services via the Teen Parent Service Center staff.

Program Option 2 – Student may remain at their district assigned school 

Students who choose to remain in their district assigned school will also have first access to Possibilities and Success Childcare Center.  The District will make all plausible efforts to coordinate transportation to and from PASCC, for all teen parents prior to enrollment in community-contracted childcare centers.  

Students will receive case management and coordination of ancillary services via the Teen Parent Service Center staff.
