С³óߣ HOPE Waiver

  •  In order for a waiver to be requested, the С³óߣ HOPE Waiver Request Form must be completed and turned into the student’s School Counselor before the beginning of the graduation period. The waiver form requires the student to gather the signatures of the coaches/athletic director or ROTC instructor(s). Please note that students substituting the HOPE course with either athletics or JROTC will not receive comprehensive Health or Physical Education and will, as a consequence, receive little or no exposure to a variety of health concepts. The description of the HOPE course can be found on the CPALMS website at .

Based on State of Florida requirements, С³óߣ’ Student Progression Plan calls for students to complete the HOPE Core (Health Opportunities through Physical Education) course in order to be eligible for standard high school graduation.  In addition to the HOPE course, there is a variety of other Physical Education courses offered as electives but not required for graduation.  The intent is to offer and expose high school students to a variety of sports and physical activities that can also be done outside of school and beyond graduation.

The only approved waivers from the State of Florida for the entire state-required one credit in HOPE are the following:

    1. Participation in two seasons of an FHSAA-sanctioned interscholastic sport at the junior varsity or varsity levels or
    2. Satisfactory completion of two years of Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) courses with a significant drill component, with a grade of “C” or better in each semester. This does not include dual enrollment ROTC.

Also, please note that there are no waivers available for medical reasons. С³óߣ HEPE physical education courses are designed to be adapted to meet students’ individual needs. Physical education teachers should be included in the IEP or 504 plan discussions to ensure that proper modifications are provided to the student. In the event of a temporary medical concern, the teacher will provide adaptations to accommodate the student’s abilities.
