The GED and Age Waiver process have changed! Please read the information below...

Duval County Public Schools established the following guidelines for students seeking an Under-Age Testing Waiver for the GED. These guidelines are consistent with the current Florida GED® Testing Procedures Manual, v. 2016.

Any student, ages 16 or 17, must be referred to the Graduation Rate Initiatives Team (GRIT) for counseling and processing. Students who are actively enrolled in Duval County Public Schools should initiate the withdrawal process with their school. All other students (Home Education, private, or transfer students) can contact GRIT@duvalschools.org to initiate the process.

The GED Under-Age Testing Waiver requirements are as follows:

    • Proof of Duval County residence, and
    • Proof of withdrawal from last school of attendance, and
    • Complete an official GED Ready practice exam with a minimum score of 150 in each of the 4 subtests, or
    • Proof of enrollment in an adult education program for GED preparation courses, and
    • Complete a required exit interview with school or district staff.

Approved age waiver requests are submitted to the FDOE GED Testing Office within two business days. Staff in the FDOE Testing office will clear the exception once school district approval has been received; within three business days.

**Please note that there are no changes to the established guidelines for DPCS students enrolled in a Performance‐Based Exit Option Model working towards a State of Florida High School Performance‐Based Diploma.
