• It’s time to start thinking about your school’s plans to participate in the 80th First Coast Regional Spelling Bee! Students in grades 5-8 may be eligible to compete in the county and regional competitions. To ensure your school is represented, please follow the steps below:

     

    1.    Review the speller qualifications posted below, keeping in mind the regional requirement that the minimum grade level of a qualifying speller is fifth grade.

     

    2.    Enroll with Scripps National Spelling Bee by January 31, 2024:

     

     Visit the Scripps website to enroll your school. The fees and schedule for this year are as follows:

     

    • $180 per school- enrollment fee discounted if school registers before October 31, 2023

      $199 per school- enrollment fee from November 1, 2023-January 31, 2024

    Please note that credit cards are the preferred method of payment. Schools that utilize Scripps’ pay-by-check option will incur additional fees and a delay in access to preparation materials. After the enrollment fee is paid, schools will receive exclusive online access to the 2024 Classroom Pronouncer Guide, the 2024School Pronouncer Guide, study materials, and more.

     

    3. Register with the Duval County Spelling Bee Coordinator now to receive information about the Duval County Spelling Bee. 

     

    Please complete the district to notify the С³óߣ spelling bee coordinator of your decision to participate in the 2024 Duval County spelling bee. This will ensure you receive all pertinent communication related to spelling bee processes and deadlines, as your registration with Scripps is not communicated to the district coordinator.

     

    Important Dates:

    • School-level winners' names must be submitted via the by January 31, 2024.  

    • The Semifinal County Spelling Bee will be held online on February 13, 2024, during the school day. 

    • The Final County Bee is scheduled for February 27, 2024, at 6:00 PM at Samuel Wolfson School for Advanced Studies, located at 7000 Powers Ave, Jacksonville, FL. 32217
