Elementary Integration of African and African American History
Below you will find the standards by grade level where African and African American History is incorporated into the Social Studies curriculum.
Currently, we DO NOT have an adopted textbook for teaching African and African American History in Elementary Schools.
All resources are reviewed and vetted by a committee before being distributed to schools for use.

Kindergarten
Standards:
- SS.K.A.2.1 - Recognize the importance of celebrations and national holidays as a way of remembering and honoring people, events, and our nation's ethnic heritage.
- SS.K.A.2.4 - Listen to and retell stories about people in the past who have shown character ideals and principles including honesty, courage, and responsibility.

Standards:
- SS.1.A.2.3 - Identify celebrations and national holidays as a way of remembering and honoring heroism and achievements of the people, events, and our nation's ethnic heritage.
- SS.1.A.2.4 - Identify people from the past who have shown character ideals and principles including honesty, courage, and responsibility.

- SS.2.A.2.8 - Explain the cultural influences and contributions of immigrants today.
- SS.2.C.2.5 - Evaluate the contributions of various African Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans, veterans, and women.
